My Teeth are Turning Yellow

The majority of reasons for tooth staining fall into two groups: extrinsic and intrinsic stains. Yellowing could likewise be triggered by a range of health aspects.

The number one reason for teeth yellowing is your way of living. Cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, drinking coffees and teas, as well as “chewing” cigarette, could cause your teeth to turn yellow.

Various other dark-colored foods and drinks, like red wine, soda pops, dark sauces and numerous fruits could tarnish your teeth. These products contain a high amount of pigment that produces compounds which could adhere to the tooth enamel.

Acidic foods and drinks could aggravate issues by wearing down tooth enamel and also making it less complicated for chromogens to stick to the teeth. The tannin in wine, for instance, aids chromogens affix to your tooth enamel, making it more difficult to remove it.

Thin Enamel

Your teeth could appear yellow if the enamel is getting thinner and the dentin is showing through it. Dentin is a brown product found in your teeth and sitting under the enamel. It’s typically in charge of the yellowish portion of your teeth that you see when looking at the mirror. Thick enamel hides the dentin. However, it does not constantly prevent the discolorations from developing externally. It is another explanation as to why “my teeth are turning yellow.”

Wearing Down of Teeth

As you grow older, your teeth inevitably turn yellow. That’s because the enamel wears off from eating and it is exposed to acids from food and drink. Most older individuals have yellow teeth because enamel wears down with age. However, some older people will have grayish color on their teeth when combined with a long-lasting food discoloration.

Too Much Fluoride

Fluoride is vital to strengthen teeth. However, extra fluoride could create yellow or brown yellow spots. This is known as fluorosis. The most significant sources of fluoride are fluoride toothpaste, fluoride tablets, and fluoridated water. Talk to your dentist if you’re a child is taking way too much of it from these sources.

Physical Trauma

A physical injury could cause teeth to fracture and injure tooth enamel and the tooth’s inside. As a result, it causes staining that could show bleeding. It requires expert attention.

Teeth Grinding

If you have the habit of unconsciously grinding your teeth, then you’re likely to suffer from yellow teeth. Tooth grinding is usually the result when you’re stressed out. Also referred to as bruxism, it’s fairly damaging to tooth enamel as it deteriorates it to the point of fracturing and causing it to turn yellow.

Preventing Yellow Teeth

To stay clear of having yellow teeth, you need to brush your teeth regularly. Then, make sure to undergo professional cleaning regularly. Your dentist may also suggest bleaching treatments and veneers. Don’t forget to floss your teeth daily. To take on deeper innate stains, see your oral hygienist who could clean those unpleasant bacteria and tartar. Your dental hygienist may also polish your teeth to achieve a brighter smile.

Prevention is still better than treating it. That’s why, it’s best that you avoid smoking, limit your consumption of colored foods and drinks. After consuming colorful drinks and foods, rinse your mouth with water.
