Why are my gums bleeding?

My gums are bleeding, what is causing it?

Most of the times, dental health concerns revolve around preventing cavities and focus on the teeth. However, symptoms involving the gums should not be ignored. Conditions affecting your gums can have a serious impact not only on your dental health, but your overall well-being.

If your gums are only bleeding when you brush, you may be brushing too vigorously. Gum tissues are very delicate, and using improper technique can damage them, causing them to bleed. Be sure to choose a toothbrush whose bristles are blunted. It is also best to choose soft bristled brushes, as they are less likely to damage your gums or the enamel on your teeth. Use circular motions to clean your teeth and gums, massage them rather than trying to scrub them clean.

My gums constantly bleed, not just when I brush or floss, what is the cause?

Persistent gum bleeding is a serious issue that could be related to a number of medical conditions. This could include:

  • Bleeding disorders
  • Vitamin K deficiency
  • Infections
  • Scurvy
  • Leukemia
  • Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura

Why are my gums bleeding but don’t hurt?

If your gums are bleeding, but not causing you pain it may be due to undiagnosed gum disease that is still in its early stages. Plaque that accumulates below the gum line can irritate in the same way a splinter does when under the skin. If left untreated, it can become infected and progress further. It is important to ensure that you are brushing twice per day and flossing at least once per day. In some cases, the condition can improve if you begin brushing after every meal. However, if your gums keep bleeding, you should schedule an appointment with your dentist immediately. It may be a sign that you have a more serious medical condition.

Continuous training allows me to provide Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry. For your convenience, I have a Dental Laboratory on the premises. This allows me to work closely with the Dental Technician to fabricate the most functional and esthetic Partials and Dentures. I am also able to accommodate emergency Denture Repairs on the spot.As your General Dentist, I care about your dental conditions as it relates to your overall health and well being. Your comfort during dental procedures is my highest concern. I work at your pace and offer free Nitrous Oxide Gas. I remain committed to giving you a healthy and attractive smile with honest and conservative treatment while developing a long term relationship. My hobbies include traveling, fishing, Texas Hold’em, Swimming, and Singing. Ultimately my Quartet won the coveted International Barbershop Quartet Championship in 2004. I have two children, both married, and a beautiful baby granddaughter. I have been blessed to serve this community and look forward to doing so for many years to come. I enjoy coming to the office everyday and I’m encouraged the company of my wonderful staff and patients. I look forward to meeting you. At our office, we have a relaxed atmosphere. There’s a open reception area that allows me meet, greet and answer any questions that our clients may have. We have a great play area for kids and many of our adult patients have a great time in our waiting room. On any given day, a spontaneous “party” can happen in the front area while serious dentistry is getting performed. We take pride in getting to know our patients and making them feel comfortable, like family, and not just an anonymous face off the street. This is what sets us apart from any other practice in the area.
