Do Apples Yellow Teeth?

If you’re too conscious about your teeth, then you might be one of those many people who wish to know whether or not it’s true that apples could cause yellowing of teeth. The short answer is yes.

However, apples aren’t the only food that could cause your teeth to discolor. Other health foods could turn your pearly whites to yellow. But the damage or yellowing can be prevented.

How? Let’s first discuss how can apples cause yellow teeth.

Apples and other foods have acids. When you eat them, the acids can wear away your tooth enamel. When the enamel thins out, it exposes your dentin, the yellowish part of your tooth, causing your teeth to appear yellowish.

When dentin is exposed, it could cause your affected tooth to become more sensitive to hot and cold beverages or foods.

Besides foods, a medical disease could also thin out your tooth enamel. For example, acid re-flux disease is a medical condition that causes your stomach to produce an excessive amount of acid. The acid generated in the stomach travels to the mouth. As a result, it starts to wear away the tooth’s enamel.

But the effect of the acid from apples and other foods can be prevented by not brushing after eating acidic foods. Brushing immediately will cause scrubbing away of the enamel. Even though the enamel is hard, acid can soften it.

How to avoid yellowing of teeth after eating apples?

After eating acidic foods, you have to drink water and swirl it around your mouth. Doing so will clear away those acids and their staining compounds.

Then, try to produce more saliva in your mouth after eating those foods. Saliva is a natural defense to prevent enamel erosion, cavities, and staining.

What are your options if you have yellow teeth as a result of eating apples and other acidic foods regularly?

You may be tempted to use tooth whitening toothpaste. However, it’s not the best solution. Instead of using those whitening toothpaste, you should visit your dentist and find out how you can resolve your yellow teeth.

At Manhattan Beach Dental Center, our patients are given several treatment options to brighten their smiles or bring back the appeal to their teeth.

We offer both at home and in-office teeth whitening treatments. Each of them is safe and easy to follow. Our dentists at Manhattan Beach Dental Center recommend drinking or rinsing your mouth after drinking or eating acidic foods.

And as mentioned earlier, avoid brushing your teeth immediately after eating those foods to prevent wording the enamel.

Although apples can cause your teeth to yellow, you should not give up on eating them. Some acidic foods are healthy because they contain vitamin C, which is perfect for your body.

When you visit Manhattan Beach Dental Center, our dentists can provide you a dental sealant to further protect your teeth against enamel erosion.

It’s also ideal that you visit your dentist regularly to undergo professional dental cleaning as it can also help in alleviating teeth discoloration.
