Are My Teeth Healthy?

The only way to know if your teeth are healthy is to visit your dentist and have them checked. Your teeth can last a lifetime if you properly take care of them by brushing your teeth after every meal. It’s also important to floss after brushing or at least twice a day.

What may cause your teeth to go wrong?

Tooth decay is one of the reasons that your teeth may not last for decades. If it’s left untreated, you may need a root canal treatment, or worse, your teeth may be removed.

However, no matter how much you take care of your teeth, they’re still vulnerable to wear. It’s when you reach 50 years old that dental problems show up.

Then again, there are changes that you can do to your dental routine that can help maintain a healthy set of teeth.

Do you feel a slight twinge in your teeth?

If you do, call your dentist right away. At Manhattan Beach Dental Center, we take an x-ray to know if there are cracks in our patients’ teeth. Cracks can either be smoothed or filled. However, if you have larger breaks, you may need a full crown.

To prevent cracks, you should use a fluoride rinse. Then, don’t forget to brush and floss every day.

Sensitive teeth must be addressed

This dental issue should be treated properly. A painful tooth is a symptom of a periodontal disease that has affected your gums. Unfortunately, periodontal disease doesn’t always cause symptoms until it’s already in its late stage.

You should stop your gum disease by undergone professional deep cleaning as recommended by your dentist. It’s also vital to use antibacterial rinses every day. Then, make sure that you visit your dentist once every six months or as recommended.

You may also use OTC fluoride rinses or toothpaste. Never bleach your teeth as it can increase sensitivity.

When brushing your teeth, make sure to use soft, rounded bristles. Opt for an oscillation electric brush. In several studies, this kind of brush can reduce plaque and alleviate gum inflammation.

There are several electric brushes available. However, the most useful ones are those with oscillating heads. Any person can use a power brush. It’s especially helpful if you have limited movement of your hand or arm.

How often should you brush your teeth?

To achieve perfect oral health, you should practice brushing your teeth after every meal. If you can’t, you should brush at least twice a day after breakfast and before going to bed.

Can regular brushing remove all plaque?

Unfortunately, you’ll need a professional dental cleaning to eliminate all plaques from your teeth. However, regular brushing can prevent further plaque to develop.

Apart from brushing your teeth, it’s also vital that you change your toothbrush every three months for a perfect oral hygiene. The reason for this is that worn-out brushes can’t clean your teeth properly. In fact, they may cause damage to your gums. If the bristles are splayed, they can’t clean properly. So, your toothbrush is in perfect condition to maximize the benefits of tooth brushing.
